ROCK COVE 1.jpg

Rock Cove

Rock Cove was one of those truly special projects that will leave a lasting impression on us.  It is an immensely rewarding experience as builders to have such an array of unique challenges to overcome and such a wide pool of design experts and specialists to work with to tackle these technical complexities. The result is a home that leaves a memorable impact on anyone who views it.

Rock Cove is a modern home cantilevered over the edge of the Rosneath Peninsula with gorgeous lines, and beautiful glass. Designed by the acclaimed Cameron Webster Architects, this remarkable property seamlessly blends cutting-edge design, exceptional craftsmanship, and carefully selected materials suited to the rugged natural setting to create a residence that is as striking as its coastal surroundings. Recognised with the prestigious Supreme Award at the GIA 2024, Rock Cove is a testament to what can happen when the right partners come together around a shared vision.

The site presented unique challenges, including steep, rocky terrain and exposure to coastal elements. To overcome these hurdles, we applied innovative and carefully coordinated efforts to create a site-specific scaffolding solution that allowed safe and precise access during construction. The home’s structural steel frame, reinforced concrete foundations, and corrosion-resistant materials were essential for this beautiful building to face down the Scottish storms.

QBuild worked closely with architect Stuart Cameron and the design team from early on in the process to bring the architectural vision to life. This required close cooperation with various other specialists and meticulous attention to the details with each stage of the process.

Some of the key partners included IQ Glass, whose bespoke glazing solutions allowed for floor-to-ceiling windows  within the living spaces which create the most surreal impression of being immersed into the view. This effect is, of course compounded by the home's dramatic cantilever over the sea, a feat of engineering supported by a robust structural steel framework  developed by Narro EngineeringArmour Quantity Surveyors played a vital role in cost management, ensuring the project's finances worked without compromising on quality.

Interior Elegance and Precision

Inside, Rock Cove carries a serene, luxurious atmosphere as the minimalist design immediately draws one towards the impressive scenery, taking full advantage of the location. The expansive living spaces are anchored by 1.2m² Italian stone-effect tiles, used both internally and externally, subtly blending the spaces together when the 5 meter plus doors are opened.  These tiles, warm timber soffits and the other carefully curated materials create a balance between contemporary design and natural textures, enhancing the connection to the surrounding landscape and lend an air of sophistication and seamlessly complement the home’s modern aesthetic.

Environmental considerations were at the forefront of the design. The use of sustainable materials, energy-efficient glazing, and precise engineering ensured that the home not only met but exceeded modern standards of eco-conscious construction. Despite its bold design, Rock Cove feels entirely at one with its environment, a harmony achieved through thoughtful planning and execution.

Rock Cove’s innovative design and build execution speaks for itself, but winning the Supreme Award at the GIA 2024 highlights the project’s impact as a model of excellence in bespoke homebuilding. For QBuild, it’s a proud example of what can be achieved through collaboration, expertise, and a shared commitment to delivering extraordinary results.
